The Zombie Prom at Lucky 13 Garage is kicking off tomorrow at 7.30 and as we prepare for Craven Brains High Schools Prom of the dead we thought we would chat to the 90s cover band who will be resurrecting 20 year old hits! To us the 90s never died, but to many its dead and buried!
Be sure to get your tickets tonight to save a few dollars! Tickets available at the door for $15!
SPAM has been performing for what seems like forever. What has been your secret to your longevity?
We believe by changing drummers every 2-3 months it keeps us fresh and excited to play. Its at a point now where we don't even know their names, we just number them. We've had more drummers than Spinal Tap! No honestly we literally have had more drummers than Spinal Tap! We're excited to have #26 playing the Prom. If he does well we may even extend his contract a few weeks... maybe..
Out of all the events you have performed for, what is your most memorable gig, and what has happened to make it stick in your mind?
We've had so many memorable gigs over the last 10 or so years. We name them like the “Friends” episodes. eg, “The gig where Grant forgot his bass” , “The gig where Lee forgot his drum sticks”, “The gig where Lee forgot his snare drum” “The gig where Cam forgot he had gastro” (that ended badly) So many good times..
The 90s were a timeless era for all those who are now in their late 20s and 30s. Why do you think these tunes have persisted over the decades and what gives them their appeal?
As a band we really haven't learnt anything new since the 90s so I suppose thats one way of keeping the songs alive. I think 90s songs are appealing as most people grew up in the 90s. Even my Nana grew up in the 90s!
You guys will be a full Zombie Band for The Zombie Prom, what songs, what interaction and what can the Zombie Alumni expect on the night?
We put together a classic SPAM setlist, then removed the songs that weren't really “classics” .
To those 4 songs we added some classic 90s rock. We even added some unexpected surprises. Some are such a surprise that even some of the band don't know them! Basically lots of 90s with a touch of boy band and a hint of all girl group. We're in our element and can't wait!
Many rumors have been thrown around the internet this past week about the possibility of a Labyrinth sequel and we are here to break the bad news to those who want to see the project come to life.
Firstly The Goblin Ball has a small connection to the Jim Henson studios dating back to The Ice Kingdom. However we were asked to keep quiet and unfortunately, there are still requests for the kind of confidentiality. We can however reveal the following details.
The Dark Crystal sequel is in production. In the Ice Kingdom marketplace we had the honor of having character molds for order through one of our vendors (although they were masquerading as something else at the time). These molds were character designs from The Dark Crystal sequel but unfortunately have not been made available for order since.
Just like the rest of you we would be hesitant in welcoming a Labyrinth sequel and wonder how the transition from Real FX to CGI would change the story telling. The charm of Labyrinth is in its raw realness, real sets and lack of green screen (save for the black velvet scene of Chilly Down). Puppets replaced by CGI? Not something we would like to see. There is something charming about
On good Authority The Goblin Ball can confirm that there is no Labyrinth Sequel in the works however we can drool over this fan made video.
Venture down the Darkened Underbelly of Neo Burlesque, where the salacious lead you down a mysterious road. Come along with the Voluptuous Lady Ariya where she presents the Obscure, the Risqué and the Obscure.
Enjoy this modern alternative take on a classic tease that will leave you changing your panties whilst begging for more.
Darko the Ringmaster loves a good show, if it be beautiful women or beautiful men. He's really not that picky as long as something theatrical is happening. Today he caught up with Elise AKA Lady Ariya to speak about her latest show on Sat Oct 18 at 9:00pm! The club DV8 awaits. You may remember her as a dedicated Acolyte to the Princess Pintina at this years Goblin Ball!
Darko thought he would ask a few questions to see what guests could expect at such an intriguing event.
Burlesque! What an amazing artform! Women, sometimes men tempting and drawing in the unsuspecting public. What attracted you initially to the seductive world of burlesque?
I was always very curious of burlesque. Didn't know much about it though until I decided to take classes. What drew me to it initially was I always wanted to a unique style of dance but once I started learning and researching it was how empowering it was. I'm a plus size girl, always have been, and in burlesque there is no specific body type. There is fat, thin, tall, short. Doesn't matter about race or religion. So being alternative and being a bigger girl, I still fit in. I was still accepted. Everybody is beautiful in their own way, and they don't discriminate. It's an amazing feeling getting up on stage and knowing that your beautiful and sexy and empowered and gracious and fierce all at the same time. To me, it's exhilarating!
I haven't experienced much of your human Burlesque. It's usually something that is reserved for the Voodoo realm of Terra Bayou. What can I expect from such an interesting premise?
Lady Ariya Presents is an alternative burlesque show, so god knows what to expect lol. I would like to think that it's a peek at both the alternative scene as well as the burlesque scene. But we have amazing performers of all types, an amazing mc, a fantastic DJ and one of my favorite bands, Copia. So you can watch and be amazed by the talent layer in front of you, enjoy yourself with a drink and have a bit of a dance yourself.
That all sounds amazing. What would be the perfect insight as to what Burlesque actually is?
A lot of people are very confused what burlesque actually is. Burlesque is the art of tease. It's open to interpretation. So I think newbies would be blown away at how far we go to tease and how many different ways you can tease. Different fetishes, classic, Neo and anywhere in between. It covers ever bodies dirty little fantasies.
Burlesque for me brings nostalgia and old time clubs with doormen peering through a peephole before you are allowed inside. With this Neo Burlesque, what music style is featured?
I consider myself to be a Neo alternative burlesque performer. Which pretty much means I like newer music, that is either metal or rock or punk ect. I'm definitely a metal head through and through so it came naturally to me to do my routines to metal songs. But everybody has their own styles and that what's best about burlesque.
Will I leave satisfied or will I want to return?
Well I'm hoping everybody engorges themselves with sexual anticipation and that what's leaving them wanting more lol! Nothing like a bit of burlesque to get the panties moist ahahaha!
One shot of fun, two shots of sweetness and a whole lot of sexy; this Blonde Bombshell will tickle your tastebuds with her cute curves and cheeky smile…
Marilyn Mocktail has always loved to dance, and after joining the Bottoms Up Burlesque School in 2012 decided to take that passion to the stage. She debuted her first solo act at the iconic Burlesque Bar in 2013, and since then has been teasing her way onto the Melbourne scene through regular appearances at Club Voltaire, as well as performing in the world first Burleskathon – 24 Hours of Tease.
This year at The Zombie Prom Marilyn Mocktail takes on the role of Zombie Cheerleader for a very special act this Halloween at The Zombie Prom! We caught up with Ms Mocktail and asked her a few questions!
Burlesque is such an amazing and classic form of dance, it’s seen a resurgence since the days of Moulin Rouge the movie and other revivals of style. What attracted you to the performance art form?
I love the fact that Burlesque allows you to be creative and unique; each piece has its own different story. I think it’s also very empowering, and as someone who grew up with self esteem issues I saw Burlesque as being an opportunity to overcome those issues and really embrace who I am.
Even though you have only started out, what would you say has been your favorite performance so far?
Definitely the Burleskathon! A large number of Australian Burlesque performers, both new and established, all came together and put on a 24 hour non-stop burlesque show which officially made the Guinness World Records. I performed my “Fireman” routine 6 times between 8:30am and 12pm on a Sunday. It was a very unique experience to say the least, and had a great community feel to it.
Luckily Burlesque is constantly growing in popularity and so many events are coming up that include amazing Burlesque acts. Where would be your ultimate venue to perform?
I think performing in the Las Vegas Burlesque Hall of Fame would be an amazing experience! That would be a dream come true for me.
Zombie Cheerleader is a pretty weird request (and a far cry from Las Vegas), what has been your weirdest or most unique character up until now?
In my most recent routine I play a 1920’s silent movie housewife who is mourning after finding out her husband has just left her. However as she begins to undress she embarks on a journey of self discovery which involves (literally) finding the colour in her life. I’m also in the process of working on a routine where I will play a Black Widow Spider which I’m very excited about!
A Black Widow Spider would be phenomenally creepy for some people! This year you are a Zombie Cheerleader, what do you think you would do among a room full of Unruly Zombies?
I would teach them how to dance without dropping limbs everywhere, and maybe give a few of them makeovers. Because rotting flesh is SO not in this season.
You can catch Marilyn Mocktail performing her amazing Zombie Routine ONE NIGHT ONLY at The Zombie Prom @ Lucky 13 Garage. Click here for the event page! And Book Tickets Here

We continue our exploration of photographers who helped to make The Goblin Ball such an amazing night! This post Darko asks a few questions from Moe of Fotogenique.
The Goblin Ball was so much fun for us who created the evening! What was your favorite part of the evening?
For me, the best part of the evening was getting to meet all the actors behind the scenes, getting to know them a little more personally and sharing a few laughs with most of them. They are truly great people and extremely talented - it's no surprise they were chosen to participate in such a magical night! Also the opportunity of meeting the other talented photographers of the night was an absolute pleasure!
What was your favorite costume of the evening besides the best dressed winners?
My favourite costume would definitely have to be the beautiful young lady with the snakes on her head Medusa. I was amazed at the talent and effort she had put into making the costume!
What was your favorite photograph you captured on the evening?
I call this "Elegance at the Bar" - my absolute favourite photo.
What is your favorite part of photography?
A difficult question to reply to, as there are so many aspects of photography that I would consider as "my favourites". However if I was to choose one, I would have to say the reaction of my subjects when they see the images created for them is the most rewarding part of photography. Knowing that my hard work and determination to produce the best that I can has paid off!
Would you consider returning for The Goblin Ball 2015 - the power of Voodoo?
Would I consider it? It would be an absolute honour to be there!
There were so many amazing photographers at this years Goblin Ball we thought we would ask them a few questions and feature some of their favorite photographs from the night.
Kavita from Kalpana Photography said she had such an amazing time and we The Ringmaster Darko asked her what she thought of her first Goblin Ball.
Kavita! The Goblin Ball was such a hectic night with so much going on, what did you think as a photographer?
This was the first time i have photographed such an event, other than the wintervalk. I was amazed at the costumes, just phenomenal.
Out of the costumes you thought were phenomenal, what grabbed your attention?
I have to say it was the 2 ladies who used face paint and stencils to create intricate patterns on themselves. It was very creative and had and elegant look about them. Very fitting for the Goblin Ball.
The Goblin Ball had so many areas for you to explore. Where did you get your favorite photograph and who was it of?
Well my favourite has to be from the red room, i captured i couple just having a moment together. The gentleman was was just playing with he's partners hands, while she was just looking at him. It was adorable to see, so happy i captured that moment.
That is one amazing photo! What is your favorite part of photography? You know how to capture some amazing moments.
I love getting out there and meeting new people, going to new events and discovering new places. I love all aspects of photography, from planning a shoot, to creating the finish product. But most of all, i like seeing how my technique is evolving, I'm continuously pushing myself, putting myself in different situations and trying different techniques to create my unique style.
Do you think you will make it to the next Goblin Ball, The Power of Voodoo?
Id love to come to the next Goblin Ball. i can only see it getting bigger and better. Ive already started looking ideas for my costume, and a few people i know want to come along too!
