The Event Information
What to expect The Goblin Voyage is a boat party at heart – this is how we can bring you a celebration for only $35! We welcome all forms of costume. The theme is ‘Ship of the Damned’ – but don't let that stop you from coming as who you want to be! We love movies such as Labyrinth, Legend, Dark Crystal and The Princess Bride, to name a few. But you should come as something that inspires you. Dance downstairs in the DJ room (with David Bowie featuring) or hang around upstairs in the Parlour where Psychics give entertaining readings, Burlesque is beautiful, and Magic performers mystify. There is even the chance to beat out your favorite ballad on the mic. For $35 you can expect entertainment, a slice or two of pizza (shh... it's secret!) and flowing drinks from the bar. EFTPOS is available.
The difference? The Goblin Voyage is a smaller event than the GRAND Goblin Ball you may be used to. Smaller vessel and smaller storyline – however, we are big on entertainment and big on celebration. The boat is smaller than a ballroom, so be sure to go onto the deck for the views and a break from the crowd. Smoking is permitted outside.
Make new friends in phenomenal costumes! Perhaps you would like to dress up in the theme of ‘The Ship of the Damned’. We also welcome all costumes from any fantasy movie. It doesn't matter – the choice is yours! If you want to come out of costume, we encourage formalwear with a mask. There will be a prize for best dressed.
Why you are here.
Those who come to party… There is an amazing amount of entertainment on board. Celebrate with guests who put a lot of time and effort into their costumes, and drink the night away while dancing to the retro mix playing on the lower deck. Feeling a little adventurous? Come to the upper deck and have your fortune told, be entertained with the mayhem, or watch the magicians work their magic. Those who come for a little more... As you probably know, The Goblin Ball events usually carry a bit of mystery with them. Create your own characters, live out your fantasy, or create your own drama. We have characters to welcome you and interact. Each Goblin Ball event has its own storyline for you to interact with, and a mystery to solve!
Suggested Costume Guidelines
Usually you would see a post recommending costume recommendations for the ladies and for the gents, however The Goblin Ball team know there are so many shades of gender – we create a safe space for all. These guidelines are for everyone.
Keep in mind
Be fantastic! All forms of fantasy cosplay, 80s movies, and general amazingness is welcomed.
Flat shoes are best – the boat will be moving.
Hats and headwear – be careful, the entry is low and the upper deck is only 7ft high. If you have a hat be sure you can remove it.
Silhouette (costume width) – as slender as possible, as it will be crowded.
Dress warm, but there is no cloakroom. There will be spaces for you to sit down and babysit your friends’ coats.
Keep your valuables on you at all times.
There will be prizes for best dressed.
The night is filled with fun! Be sure you don't miss out.*
Sail time is 8pm so arrive before 7.30 to get your ticket. You can have a few pre-drinks at the Woolshed Pub (18/161 Harbour Esplanade).
Your ticket grants access to the boat at 8pm sharp – and a little earlier to allow for boarding.
Secret Pizza at the bar includes veggie and gluten free options. It's secret because it's a bonus. Not included in the ticket price.
Downstairs you will be able to dance the night away with a retro mix of the 80s, 90s and now. Request songs here!
Upstairs we will have the Parlour open to song performances (think karaoke).
Two magical Burlesque performances on the night will be performed.
A wandering magician and circus performer will entertain you throughout the night.
A best dressed guest will be crowned!
The afterparty kicks off when you leave the boat! Club Retro (383 Lonsdale St) has you on Darko's guestlist.
*As the night progresses, you may miss some entertainment. If you want to see something specific, ask a Ringmaster and they will tell you the best times to be certain places.
What to bring
Supplies If you are here to party, just bring yourself! If you wish to play along we recommend you bring a few trading supplies with you. If you can't swing a few trinkets we suggest taking on tasks from guests to win a few token gifts. We suggest the following:
Small trinkets created by your character (you can find bulk trinkets on eBay. Sometimes a few dollars is all it takes to get some trinkets to trade)
A small scroll outlining your history or story
Be creative - sometimes stones or gems are a great commodity
Party poppers are okay, but no small bits like glitter or confetti poppers
What not to bring
What not to bring Due to the restrictions of the vessel there are a few things we can't allow on board.
Glitter to throw around (Glitter lip balm and make-up is fine)
Real weaponry (LARP or Live action Role Play safe is okay!)
Anything illegal for your own safety
Don't throw anything overboard
Enjoy Your Voyage
